Anthropic says Houthi-linked users tried to develop missile systems with Claude

Anthropic said accounts operating in Houthi-controlled northern Yemen used Claude while attempting to design advanced missile systems. Its threat report described work on guidance, navigation and control software, including a proposed hypersonic-glide variant and a warhead guided with mobile-phone hardware.

The company blocked the accounts and said it found no evidence that an operational device was fielded; one guided-rocket test failed. Houthi political-bureau member Hazam al-Assad disputed Anthropic’s account. The findings are the company’s investigation, not an independently verified inventory of Houthi weapons.

Saudi pipeline closes after drone strike as Houthis seize a Red Sea island

Saudi Arabia shut its East-West oil pipeline as a precaution after a drone attack that Riyadh said originated in Iraq. Iraq condemned the strike and opened an investigation. Separately, Yemeni government and Houthi officials confirmed that Houthi forces captured Mayun, or Perim, island in the Bab el-Mandeb strait—the group’s largest territorial gain in years.

The two developments should not be collapsed into one allegation: Saudi officials attributed the pipeline drones to Iraq, not to the Houthis. Mayun matters because it overlooks a shipping chokepoint where traffic has already fallen sharply since late 2023.

India / Diplomacy Sept. 11

Modi and Putin begin Delhi talks before the BRICS summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin began talks in New Delhi on Friday, their second meeting in two weeks and one day before India hosts a BRICS leaders’ summit.

Trade, energy and defence were expected to lead the agenda, with civil nuclear cooperation, fertilisers, critical minerals, manufacturing, railways and steel also under discussion, according to a person familiar with the plans. The report described talks in progress, not completed agreements.

Washington and Mexico sprint toward an interim trade deal—without one yet

US and Mexican negotiators are pushing for an interim bilateral trade agreement before the November 3 US midterm elections, six people familiar with the discussions told Reuters. The effort follows a collapse in US-Canada talks and sits inside the uncertain renewal process for the three-country USMCA.

Automotive content, Chinese investment and US national-security tariffs on steel, aluminium and vehicles are among the contested issues. Mexico’s economy ministry said there is no specific deadline. This is active negotiation based partly on anonymous sourcing—not an announced deal.

Andhra government issues coastal alert for heavy rain and strong winds

Andhra Pradesh placed coastal districts on alert as a low-pressure area over the South Odisha–North Andhra coast was forecast to bring moderate to heavy rainfall in North Andhra and moderate rain farther south through Saturday.

The state disaster-management authority warned of winds around 50 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h, and advised fishermen not to venture to sea. Conditions can change locally; current APSDMA and India Meteorological Department alerts should guide travel and coastal decisions.

School visits expose teacher shortages during election-roll duty

Government-school visits by the Cockroach Janta Party and The Indian Express found severe staffing gaps while teachers were deputed to Special Intensive Revision electoral-roll work. At one Adugodi school, four of seven teachers were assigned away; at the neighbouring government PU college, only two of 13 were available for nine sections and 550 students.

Karnataka’s school-education commissioner said 15–20% of Bengaluru teachers were deputed and acknowledged an impact on academic work. The visits also raised sanitation and infrastructure concerns; those observations are reports from the campaign and school staff, not a statewide audit.

America marks 25 years since 9/11 as CIA releases pre-attack briefs

Memorial ceremonies in New York, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania marked 25 years since the September 11 attacks. At the Pentagon, the names of the 184 people killed there were read aloud.

The CIA also released dozens of declassified presidential daily briefs describing intelligence gathered about Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida before the attacks. The release adds primary documents to the public record; declassification does not by itself settle the long-running questions about how agencies interpreted and shared warning signs.

San Francisco beat the Los Angeles Rams 27–7 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the first NFL regular-season game played in Australia. Brock Purdy passed for 205 yards and three touchdowns.

The announced crowd of 100,021 was the seventh-largest for an NFL regular-season game. The result is the sporting headline; the scale of the crowd is the league’s proof point for its continuing international push.

Textile history వస్త్ర కథలు

When marble flowers became embroidery

Indian embroidered cotton fragment showing a cusped arch and flowering plant
Embroidered textile fragment, 18th century, India. Cotton, quilted and embroidered with silk. The Met, 2024.318. Public domain.

This eighteenth-century cotton fragment translates an architectural vocabulary into thread. The Met connects its cusped arch and naturalistic flowering plant to Shah Jahani pietra dura—the floral designs formed by inlaying semi-precious stones into white marble.

Silk embroidery carries the colour while quilting gives the surface relief. The comparison identifies a design influence, not a named workshop: the catalogue records India as the place of manufacture but does not assign a more specific centre.
