TaaraNight
A cozy daily Reddit game where everyone solves the same real constellation and grows a personal night sky.

A drive to Dover, Arkansas revealed the night sky without light pollution for the first time. There were countless stars and even a few shooting stars, but Orion was almost the only constellation I could name. That gap between wonder and understanding became the beginning of TaaraNight.
Inside the experience
What someone can actually do
- Solve the same constellation as the entire community each evening
- Connect stars drawn from all 88 officially recognized constellations
- Unlock an original bedtime story in English and Telugu
- Compete on a nightly leaderboard with transparent hints and decoys
- Grow My Sky, a pannable collection of every constellation solved
- Maintain a Jwala streak and share spoiler-free result cards
How the idea took shape
Work in XR had already shown me that people remember what they experience. Instead of asking someone to study a chart, TaaraNight lets them discover the shape themselves, then connects it to a story they can carry into the real night sky.
Taara means star in Telugu, my mother tongue. The name shaped a warmer experience where astronomy data, bilingual stories, gentle narration, and community competition can live together without feeling like a lesson.
The game went through several redesigns before arriving at one clear rhythm: one sky, one puzzle, one story, every night. Removing features made the ritual easier to understand and gave people a reason to return.
Real positions come from the HYG Database, star names are checked against the IAU Catalog of Star Names, and each puzzle is projected to remain recognizable while still feeling comfortable to solve on a phone.
“Constellation learning becomes more memorable when it feels like a nightly ritual people solve together, not a chart they study alone.”

I created the concept, designed the ritual and spoiler-safe community loop, engineered the game, adapted astronomy data, wrote the myths, and shipped it on Reddit.

Where it could go next
The goal is not another daily game. It is a small nightly ritual that helps people pause, look up, and rediscover wonder before sleep.
- An AR companion for finding constellations in the real sky
- Richer audiobook-quality narration
- Community milestones, Reddit flair, and seasonal streak rewards
- Creator Mode for community-made constellations and stories after completing all 88
