Self-portraits made through doodling, AI, the Wizarding World, Ravenclaw, and virtual reality.
Portraits are another way to build a world around a person. One began in the official Wizarding World Portrait Maker, where Ravenclaw colors, a wand, and a sorting hat turned fandom into a character that felt immediately familiar.
When DALL·E made it feel possible to visualize almost anything, a self-portrait became the next experiment. The inspiration came partly from On Designing Worlds and the idea that a portrait can be assembled from the objects, symbols, and imagined details that describe a person.
The image became Ravenclaw, virtual reality, and a version of an Om tattoo that has never existed on my real neck but has lived in my imagination for years. AI was not asked for a generic likeness; it was used to stage a more symbolic version of me.
A second direction reduced the portrait into a single-color icon. The reference was the Starbucks siren: a detailed emblem that evolved into bold, recognizable vector linework. The goal was that same sense of identity held inside one compact mark.
The hand-drawn “C’est la vie” page belongs here too. Its Ravenclaw hat, headset, travel symbols, and tiny personal references are the analog version of the same portrait: less polished, but unmistakably mine.
